TENUTA PERNICE

We had the great pleasure of visiting this wonderful place in January of 2019, along with Gabriele, who had introduced us. It was, in fact, their Collare Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon that sparked the dream one night at Chiesa di Ignano back in July 2018, though as we have explored their full range, we’ve learnt that it was only the tip of the iceberg. Known locally as the “women’s cellar”, it was the mother of Chiara Azzali, the present owner, who planted the vines and many of them regional varieties.

As we were shown around the vines, they told us how important it was to them to not only maintain but keep improving those grape varieties that were particular to the region, to keep celebrating what the soil was so well suited to. Click here find out more about our visit.

MEET THE MAKER

The wines are made on site at the Vineyard, and the team is led by Chiara, who started working the vineyard and making the wines out of necessity at first, as her mother became less able to do so. However, over time, the work became much more of a labour of love, and she has worked hard to create some truly excellent wines.

The vineyards themselves, all registered D.O.C. (Denomination of Controlled Origin), are home to traditional vines, specifically Bonarda, Barbera, Ortrugo and Malvasia di Candia, and the more internationally known Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes have been matched to their plots to achieve the very best from each variety.
